The Directors of Research & Evaluation is an organization for those leading K-12 research, evaluation and/or accountability efforts in school districts. We share information, research reports, best practices and support each other in our work in schools.

A Network of Colleagues. The Directors of Research and Evaluation (DRE) offers you a network of colleagues with whom you can share resources, collaborate on common issues, and learn from throughout the year.  We also meet annually in conjunction with the AERA Conference.  At recent meetings we heard from colleagues from Ontario about a provincial wide initiative on managing information for student achievement, an update on federal initiatives and policies, and the results of a survey of district research departments. We also jointly sponsored a special symposium on PARCC and Smarter Balanced efforts and the transition to the Common Core State Standards.

Web Resources. The website,, includes papers from our annual meeting, results of our survey of R&E Directors, and research reports done by or for districts and submitted to the AERA Division H Publication Competition from 2006 through 2014. We also feature the websites of selected district R&E Departments.

Webinar.  This year we started a webinar series for R&E Directors. See the results of our first webinar at .

Weekly News.  Every week DRE sends out ED News for K12 Researchers, a brief summary of the week’s research reports, news and other information of interest to K12 researchers. Sign up for our weekly e-mail news blast, which includes some bonus links not found in the e-paper. Go to to see our latest edition and an archive of past news briefs.

Join your Colleagues!  Join DRE and become part of our network. It is just $20 to support the work described above.

Dues are used to maintain the website, provide the ad free weekly news blast and pay conference expenses. An annual accounting is reported at the annual meeting.
